The Bathery Jain Temple, dating back to the 13th century, is said to have been built in the prevalent architectural style of the then reigning Vijayanagar Dynasty. Tipu Sultan set up his battery (store for ammunition) at this site, and today the entirety of Sulthan Bathery is named after the same. One is immediately made aware of the sanctity and colourful past that shrouds this temple in both grandeur and mystique.
Phantom Rock is a tourist destination near Ambalavayal. It is a natural metamorphic rock formation resembling a human skull, and thus is known as Phantom Rock. This structure can be reached by trekking. It stands at a height of 2600 feet above sea level. It is near "Cheengeri Mala".
The Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
Elephants roam freely here and tigers are sighted occasionally as well. Various species of deer, monkeys and birds also live here. The Reserve is also home to a profusion of birds, butterflies and insects. Jeep rides through the forests are available. Elephant rides can be arranged by the Forest Department.
Edakkal caves are well known for its cave art, which are thought to be of 6000 B C. To achieve the hollows, one needs to trek through the Ambukutty Mala. It will take around 45 minutes climb to reach the hill. Inside the cave, you can see two chambers. The lower chamber is 18 ft long, 12 ft wide and 10 ft high and the upper chamber is 96 ft long, 22 ft wide and 18 ft high.
Karappuzha dam, one of the biggest earth dams in the country, is located in Wayanad. This picturesque reservoir contains many small islands scattered around the vast area it occupies. The dam is located near the Karappuzha River, a tributary of the Kabini. The surrounding misty hills and the lush green islands are an ideal breeding ground for many aquatic birds.
Pookode Lake which is considered to be one of the most beautiful freshwater lake located in South India nestled amidst the large evergreen forests and multitudes of mountains slopes. The Pookode Lake is spreading across an area of 8.5 hectares with a depth of around 6.5 meters. It is a perennial fresh water lake protected by the forested hills and it acts as a haven for fresh water fish and a lot of blue lotus flowers.
It is a protected river delta with a number of islands over the middle of Kabini River, the famous east flowing river in Kerala. The island is sprawling across an area of 950 acres with a dense population along with some rich and rare species of flora and fauna. It protects the evergreen forest ranges which provide a different ambience and thus making it an ideal choice for tourism.
Chembra is the highest peak in Wayanad district is a picturesque location. Situated 2,100 m above sea level, this peak offers a breath-taking view. The route to the peak itself has a brilliant view along with a heart-shaped lake, waterfalls and lush greenery the whole way. It is a prime spot for trekking but prior permission needs to be taken before going on these treks.
Mudumalai National Park is a national park in the Nilgiri Mountains in Tamil Nadu, south India. It covers 321 km² at an elevation range of 850–1,250 m in the Nilgiri District and shares boundaries with the states of Karnataka and Kerala. A part of this area has been protected since 1940. Nagarhole tiger reserve, Bandipur national park and Masinagudi are all in similar distances.
Ooty (Udhagamandalam) is a resort town in southern India's Tamil Nadu state. Founded as a British Raj summer resort, it retains a working steam railway line. Other reminders of its colonial past include Stone House, a 19th-century residence, and the circa-1829 St. Stephen’s Church. Botanical Garden, Boat lake, Doddabetta Peak, Pykara, Avalanche, Mukurthi and beutiful sceneries are some of the other attractions.
Calicut (Kozikode), the most important city of Malabar region of Kerala, was a leading trading centre for spices on the West Coast of India during the medieval period. The place is historically famous as the Portuguese led by Vasco da Gama first landed in India, at Kappad near Kozhikode in 1498 AD. It is the nearest beach from your homestay and has many other attractions.
Mysore (Mysuru), a city in India's southwestern Karnataka state, was the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore from 1399 to 1947. In its center is opulent Mysore Palace, seat of the former ruling Wodeyar dynasty. Mysore is also home to the centuries-old Devaraja Market, filled with spices, silk and sandalwood. Ranganthitu bird sanctuary, Brindavan gardens, Zoo, Chamundeshwari temple are other tourist destinations in Mysore.
